CTR Quarterly Activity

WHAT DO WE WANT TO HAVE HAPPEN:

PREPARATION AND SUPPLIES NEEDED:

  1. Make an invitation for each child. (You can order some CTR postcards from www.debanae.net and write the info on the back)
  2. CTR Scripture Stickers at www.debanae.net for each child.
  3. Red or yellow color pencils or high-lighters.
  4. Be sure that they all bring their scriptures.
  5. Be prepared for the introduction song. You may ask the music leader to do this for you.
  6. Ask four people to do the workshops. Telling the truth, being kind to others, saying their prayers and reading the scriptures.
  7. Refreshments

INTRODUCTION:

  1. Sing this song to the tune of "If you're happy and you know it" (CS. 266)
    You will want to tell them the words and hand actions before each verse begins.

  2. Explain to them that the theme for this year is "I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ". Talk with them about the things that we sang in this song are some of the things that we should be doing as members of the church.

  3. Ask them if they have ever been dared to do something? You may choose to read them the letter in "The Friend" about choosing the right.

WORKSHOPS:

  1. Divide the boys and girls up into groups.

  2. Tell the truth workshop:
    It would be fun to play the game "To Tell the Truth". Find some examples from the lessons books or your own.

  3. Being Kind Workshop:
    Have the children make a card to send to someone in the mail like a grandma or grandpa.

  4. Saying my prayers worshop:
    Paint a little prayer rock. Read them the poem and give them one to put with their prayer rock.

    I'm your little prayer rock,
    and this is what you should do.
    Just put me on your pillow,
    to stay the whole day through.
    And When you see me at night,
    I'll remind you of what you should do.
    Then put me on the floor to stay,
    until in the morning you shall rise.
    Reminding you of your prayers to say,
    so throughout day you'll choose the right.

  5. Reading my scriptures workshop:

    You may want to tell the smaller children a scripture story or video from the library instead of having them do the scripture sticker activity.

    Explain to the girls and boys that you are going to mark some scriptures about "Choosing the Right."

    Here are the scriptures to use for this activity. "Choose the Right" The Friend, Oct. 1997.

    Have all the boys and girls sit around a big table with their scriptures. Give them all a sheet of "CTR" Scripture Stickers (give the boys the boy stickers and the girls the girl stickers. You will need to cut the sheets in half) and a colored pencil. Have the scripture references written on the chalkboard and one by one look them up together, read the scripture, highlight it and put a CTR scripture sticker in the margin. It would be a good idea to invite the teachers to help the children find the scriptures.

CONCLUSION:

  1. Bring all the boys and girls back together and conclude with your testimony of what you have done today.

  2. Sing "I Belong to the Church of Jesus Christ" for the closing song.
