"I Am a Child of God" Sharing Time
Click here for the CTR Scripture Stickers at www.debanae.net
On the first Sunday of each month, you may wish to take the first few minutes of your sharing time and have the children look up that month's scripture, read it, highlight it and put the scripture sticker in the margin. (Give the boys a boy sticker and the girls a girl sticker). Help them memorize it throughout the rest of the month.
If you want to do all of the scriptures on the same Sunday this could be a great sharing time!!
OR it would be great to make a packet and send home with all of the children to do in FHE!!
SCRIPTURE STICKER ACTIVITY:
- CTR Scripture Stickers at www.debanae.net for each child.
- Red or yellow color pencils or high-lighters for each child.
- Be sure that they all bring their scriptures.
- Be prepared for the sharing time.

Attention Getter:
- Ask the children these questions:
- Who are you?
- Do you know?
- Do you have the same color eyes as your mother?
- Is the color of your hair like your father’s?
- Make these points:
- You know your name, and you know you belong to a family here on earth. Your parents and family love you. You are special to them. You are also special to Heavenly Father. He is the father of your spirit. You lived with Him in heaven before you came to earth. Everyone born on the earth is a child of Heavenly Father.
- Children often are very much like their parents. The Bible teaches us that "God created man in his own image" (Gen. 1:27). To be created in His image means that you look like your Heavenly Father. It also means you can become like Him.
- Prophets testify that you are a child of God and that He knows and loves you. Each time you sing "I Am a Child of God" (Children's Songbook, 2-3), you also testify that you know who you are. Your Heavenly Father loves you. He will answer your prayers and help you to become like Him. You are His child, and He wants you to return to live with Him again someday.
- Tell this story found in The Friend at this link "Song of Faith."
- You can have your Music Leader teach or review the song using the ideas from The Friend at this link "I Am a Child of God" song. Scroll down to idea #3.
Sharing Time SCRIPTURE STICKER ACTIVITY:
- If we each have our own copy of the scriptures, we can carefully underline a scripture or part of a story to help us find it again. Sometimes when we are reading, we find a scripture that speaks peace to our hearts or gives us great courage. Those are good scriptures to underline.
- When you read in Psalm 82:6 "All of you are children of the most High", doesn't that make you feel in your heart that you are a Child of God?
- Explain that this year we are going to be studying more scriptures just like the one we just read that will speak to each of us individually as a child of God and learn how we can return to live with them.
(These scriptures are taken from the monthly scripture themes)
- Psalm 82:6.
- 2 Nephi4:15
- I John 4:14
- Amos 3:7
- D&C 124:40
- D&C 18:15
- D&C 68:27
- Mark 11:24
- D&C 4:2
- D&C 59:7
- 2 Nephi 25:26
- Have all of the children turn around on their chairs with their scriptures. Give them all a sheet of "CTR" Scripture Stickers and a colored pencil. Have the scripture references written on the chalkboard and one by one look them up together, (have the teachers and presidency members ready to help find scriptures if needed) read the scripture, highlight it and put a CTR scripture sticker in the margin.

CONCLUSION:
- Share with the children Bishop H. Burke Peterson's testimony of prayer: "I want you to know that I know that whenever one of Heavenly Father's children kneels and talks to him, he listens. I know this as well as I know anything in this world - that Heavenly Father listens to every prayer from his children. No matter what we may have done wrong, he listens to us. I also believe he answers us" (Ensign, June 1981, 73). It is through prayer that Heavenly Father helps His children make correct choices.
- Bear testimony of the blessings of being a Child of God and having the opportunity to have Him be with us each day to help us choose the right so that we can live again with Him.
- Sing "I Am a Child of God".
