"Scripture Power" Sharing Time
Click here for the CTR Scripture Stickers at www.debanae.net
On the first Sunday of each month, you may wish to take the first few minutes of your sharing time and have the children look up that month's scripture, read it, highlight it and put the scripture sticker in the margin. (Give the boys a boy sticker and the girls a girl sticker). Help them memorize it throughout the rest of the month.
If you want to do all of the scriptures on the same Sunday this could be a great sharing time!!
OR it would be great to make a packet and send home with all of the children to do in FHE!!
SCRIPTURE STICKER ACTIVITY:
- CTR Scripture Stickers at www.debanae.net for each girl.
- Red or yellow color pencils or high-lighters for each child.
- Be sure that they all bring their scriptures.
(You can order some CTR postcards and write the info on the back and send them during the week to remind them to bring their scriptures.)
- Be prepared for the sharing time.

Attention Getter:
- Ask the children these questions:
- What is your favorite scripture story?
- Is it Daniel in the lions' den? (show a picture of Daniel in the lions' den)
- Is it Nephi going back to Jerusalem to get the brass plates? (show a picture of Nephi going back to Jerusalem)
- Maybe you have lots of favorite stories. If you wanted to read one of those stories, could you find it in your scriptures?
- When do you read your scriptures?
- Do you read them at night before you go to sleep?
- Do you read them in the morning with your family before school or play?
- Do your parents tell you scripture stories?
- Maybe you read the scriptures in your Primary class.
- Do you ever carry your scriptures to church and home again without opening them?
- Carrying the scriptures can make our arms strong, but reading them every day will make our spirits and minds strong. They have a great power in them that helps us to become like our Savior.
- Listen as I sing (or read the words) to you a powerful song:
- Because I want to be like the Savior, and I can,
I'm reading His instructions, I'm following His plan.
Because I want the power His word will give to me,
I'm changing how I live, I'm changing what I'll be.
I'll find the sword of truth in each scripture that I learn.
I'll take the shield of faith from these pages that I turn.
I'll wear each vital part of the armor of the Lord
And fight my daily battles, and win a great reward.
Scripture power keeps me safe from sin.
Scripture power is the power to win.
Scripture power! Everyday I need
The power that I get each time I read.
Or you can have your Music Leader teach the song using the ideas from The Friend at this link "Scripture Power Song." Scroll down to idea #5.
- The more we read our scriptures, the more we will come to know the "power" that they can have in our lives.
Sharing Time SCRIPTURE STICKER ACTIVITY:
- If we each have our own copy of the scriptures, we can carefully underline a scripture or part of a story to help us find it again. Sometimes when we are reading, we find a scripture that speaks peace to our hearts or gives us great courage. Those are good scriptures to underline.
- When you read in 1 Nephi 3:7 that Nephi said, "I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded," doesn't it make you feel that you can be strong too?
- Explain that the promises of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to us are recorded in the scriptures. They will help us to be stronger.
- We are going to mark some scriptures of some of their promises. Refer to this link for some scripture references with promises in them.
"Their promises are sure." at lds.org.
- Have all of the children turn around on their chairs with their scriptures. Give them all a sheet of "CTR" Scripture Stickers and a colored pencil. Have the scripture references written on the chalkboard and one by one look them up together, (have the teachers and presidency members ready to help find scriptures if needed) read the scripture, highlight it and put a CTR scripture sticker in the margin.

CONCLUSION:
- The most important way to read the scriptures is with a prayer in our hearts that Heavenly Father will help us understand them. Moroni has promised us that we can know the scriptures are true through the power of the Holy Ghost.
- Have the children turn to Moroni 10:4-5 and read it together.
- Share your testimony.
- Sing "Scripture Power".
