Lesson Title: "Appreciating the Bishop" (page 41)
OTHER RESOURCES:
OBJECTIVE:
Each young woman will understand and appreciate the responsibilities of her bishop.
PREPARATION:
- Provide paper and pencils for the class members.
- Bring notepaper, pens, and envelopes.
- Optional: Bring a picture of the bishop of your ward.
- Optional: Invite the bishop to visit the class to discuss personal interviews and other responsibilities he has.
- Assign young women to present any scriptures, stories, or quotations you wish.
ATTENTION GETTER:
Ask the Bishop's wife for two pictures of him. One a recent one and one when he was
young, doing something that the girls wouldn't recognize him. Pass around the younger
picture and ask the young women if they know who it is. Then pass around the more
recent picture and see if they can see any similarities in the two men. Visit for a minute
as they make the connection that it is the same man. I think it is good for the young women
to realize that he was once young too and a normal person. But that now he is their Bishop.

CONCLUSION:
Writing activity
Distribute notepaper, pens, and envelopes to the young women. Ask each class member to write a note of appreciation to the bishop. Make sure that the notes are delivered. (You could give them with the treat if you are using our Mid-week activity idea)
The young women may also want to choose one of the following ways of expressing appreciation for the bishop during the coming week:
- Share your feelings about your bishop with your family at family home evening.
- Share your feelings about your bishop with the bishop himself.
- Do something nice for your bishop this week.
- In your personal prayers, thank Heavenly Father for your bishop and pray for him.
Print out a thank you card (on a nice cardstock) for each of the Young women to
write a note to the Bishop.

MID-WEEK ACTIVITY IDEA:
Find out what your Bishop's favorite treat is. Meet at the church
and make it for him and deliver it to him. Sing these words to him to the tune of
"We wish you a Merry Christmas":
We thank you for all you do for us
We thank you for all you do for us
We thank you for all you do for us
we've made a treat just for you!!
