"THE B's"
Mid-Week Activity
WHAT DO WE WANT TO HAVE HAPPEN:
Preparation and Supplies Needed:
- Make and deliver the invitations the Sunday prior to the activity.
- Find the video in your ward library from the Youth Fireside held on November
12, 2000. Be prepared to play the introduction of President Hinckley's talk. We feel
the girls need to hear it from him. The youth may not have attended the fireside, but if
they did, it certainly will benefit them to hear it again.
- Be prepared to teach the young women "The B's" song found at the end of this activity.
- Obtain one sheet of "The Bee" Scripture Stickersfor each person. You can
order them from www.debanae.net
- Bring yellow crayons, color pencils, or high-lighters to mark the scriptures.
- Have the young women bring their scriptures.
- Have the refreshments ready.
- Make the handout to give to them as a reminder.
ACTIVITY:
- Opening Prayer
- Play the first part of the Prophet's talk. Stop the tape after he introduces the Six B's.
- Read this quote from him:
"Of course you face challenges. Every generation that has ever walked the earth has
faced challenges. We could spend the entire evening talking about them. But of all the
challenges that have been faced in the past, the ones we have today, I believe, are the
most easily handled. I say that because they are manageable. They largely involve
individual behavioral decisions, but those decisions can be made and followed. And
when that happens, the challenge is behind us."
(President Hinckley, Youth Fireside, November 12, 2000)
- Visit with them about challenges. Ask them what challenges they face and list them on
the chalkboard. Ask: "If you made an "individual behavior decision" not to participate in
these challenges, do you think the challenge would be harder or easier?" Explain when
they make the decision not to be part of that challenge, the challenge will be behind them.
Tell them that in the next seven weeks, they will be having activities that will help them
better understand this concept; these activities will help them to put their "challenges behind
them." (If you choose to continue with the rest of "The B" Activities)
SCRIPTURE STICKER ACTIVITY:
- During the Prophet's talk, he refers to many scriptures. Tell the girls that we will
be placing a scripture sticker on some of the scriptures to remind us of what the Prophet
says to do. Read each scripture and give the girls time to find them in their scriptures.
Have each girl place the sticker in the margin or at the top of the page. Then mark the
scripture reference with yellow. Then in the margin they can write the words. (For instance "Be Smart" etc.)

"THE B's" SONG
Gordon Bitner Hinckley is our prophet dear,
he gives us counsel and we should all adhere.
He says to "Be Grateful" and thankful to others,
"Be Smart" and "Be Clean" and choose friends carefully.
To thine own self "Be True," always "Be Humble"
and "Be most Prayerful." These are the six Beeees.
Gordon Bitner Hinckley is our Prophet dear,
he gives us counsel and we should all adhere.
