Dear to my Heart Scripture Sticker
Mutual Activity

WHAT DO WE WANT TO HAVE HAPPEN:

Help the young women realize they can love the scriptures.

PREPARATION AND SUPPLIES NEEDED:

  1. Dear to my Heart Scripture Stickers from DebaNae's at www.debanae.net for each person.
  2. Color pencils or high-lighters for each person. (Burgundy is beautiful with them)
  3. Make Sugar Cookies for the introduction.
  4. Be sure that they all bring their scriptures.
  5. Have someone prepared for the mini-lesson.
  6. Make an invitation for each young women. Buy a small bag of heart candies and attach a note to it inviting them to the activity.
  7. Refreshments

MINI-LESSON:

  1. Attention Getter:
    • Give each young woman a heart shaped sugar cookie. Decorate them with pretty pink frosting and some pretty sprinkles. Don't say anything about them except that you wanted to share something with them that you really like from your heart. Tell them they can have as much as they would like....go ahead and feast on them. While they are eating tell them the story "Hungry for More".

"Hungry for More" by LaChere Bodine, New Era, March 1997, 12.

Now liken the story to them eating their cookies. If there is someone that only nibbles at theirs or takes one bite and sets it aside (you may want to have a few leaders do this just so you can make the point) point this out. Maybe they had two cookies or just couldn't stop and feasted on them (like I would be with sugar cookies). Make all the different connections you can.

    • Now tell them that there is something else that is more "Dear to your Heart". Then talk with them about feasting with all of their heart on their scriptures. Tell them how much you love your scriptures. Be sure and share your testimony with them. Talk about how important it is to feast upon the scriptures and to not just nibble or take one bite once in a while. Talk to them about how important it is when they are reading to mark their scriptures and write in the margin their feelings so that when they come across those scriptures they will be reminded of those feelings.

    • One of my all time favorite New Era Articles by Sister Ardeth G. Kapp "Letters from Home" found in the November 1988,New Era.

"Letters From Home" Read this and it will give you other ideas that you will want to use.

SCRIPTURE STICKER ACTIVITY:

Have all of the young women sit in a circle with their scriptures. Give them all a sheet of "Dear to my Heart" Scripture Stickers. Ask them if they have a favorite scripture. Take turns turning to their favorite scriptures and sharing them. You may want to start with your favorite scripture to give them time to think. Highlight the scriptures and put a heart scripture sticker on the page. Leave plenty of time for this part of the activity.

CONCLUSION:

Close by reading 2 Nephi 32:3
Sing a favorite closing song like "Walk Tall You're a Daughter"

CLOSING PRAYER

REFRESHMENTS:

You will definitely want to serve heart everything you can get your hands on.
