In the "Heart" of the Jungle
- Camp Introduction:
To the tune of "Deep in the Heart of Texas" be sure you get the claps in there.
You will have to use a little imagination to make this fit your ward or stake. Fill in the middle verses with two lines about each of your wards and their theme....
Well you left those men and then you went...(Clap Clap Clap Clap) Deep in the Heart of the Jungle.
It's so good to see, the tribes here to be...(Clap Clap Clap Clap) Deep in the Heart of the Jungle.
There's ten of us, and we make quite a fuss. (Clap Clap Clap Clap) Deep in the Heart of the Jungle.
'bout our tribe names, none of them the same (Clap Clap Clap Clap) Deep in the Heart of the Jungle.
We'll start with us, your fearless Stake Leaders. (clap Clap Clap Clap) Deep in the Heart of the Jungle.
We're the "Heart Hunters", and we're looking for yours. (clap Clap Clap Clap) Deep in the Heart of the Jungle.
And then there's......(make up a verse for everyone)
So throughout the week, take a little peek. (Clap Clap Clap Clap) Deep in the Heart of the Jungle.
Of the things around, that only could be found. (Clap Clap Clap Clap) Deep in the Heart of the Jungle.
- Activity Ideas:
Here are some ideas of what you can do...as the day comes to a close...
--Sing songs around the campfire. Some camp songs are found on pages 71 through 78 in the camp manual. This is one of my favorite memories. Singing can be fun and it can also bring the spirit like nothing else.
--Friendship Activities. Page 50 in the camp manual.
--Games. Pages 51 and 52. These are great for during the day too.
--Wonderful Night Hikes. Pages 53 and 54a in the camp manual.
--Nature Awareness Activities. Pages 60 and 61.
--Problem-solving Activities. Pages 63 and 64.
Some other ideas for activities carried on throughout camp are...
--The buddy system. Assign younger girls to the older girls. Have them look out for them during camp, like a secret sister.
--Mailboxes. Send letters to each other. Uplifting and encouraging words go a long way.
--Camp Awards assembly. This can be a fun time for the young women and leaders. Be sure every young women is included in an award. Don't leave anyone out of the fun.
- Skit Idea:
This is a skit that we did to introduce the theme. It was pretty funny. You will need to get some help in these areas:
--Someone to read the story.
--Someone to hold up a great big heart. When the heart is held up (every time it is read in the story) the audience says "Thump Thump".
--Someone to hold up a big sign that has all of the tribe names on it . When that sign is held up every ward in order stands up and yells their tribe name.
--Someone to hold up the jungle sign. When it is held up the audience says "Lions and Tigers and snakes, oh my".
--Have someone with a tiger sign on him or dressed like a tiger. (whenever Tiger or Ape is said the audience Boos.)
--Have someone with an Ape sign on him or dressed like an Ape.
--Have someone hold up the Y.W. Values sign. When the sign is held up everyone stands and says the values in order.
The Story of "The NINE LITTLE TRIBES": (or however many you have)
Once upon a time in the HEART of the JUNGLE there were several little TRIBES.
They were working very hard to build a strong HEART that could withstand all the forces found in the JUNGLE.
One little TRIBE went out on their own and built their HEART out of the things of the world. They finished in no time at all which left plenty of time to explore the mysteries of the JUNGLE.
The ferocious TIGER and horrible looking APE came to the TRIBE and said, "Little TRIBE, little TRIBE let me have your HEART." But the little TRIBE replied, "Not by the VALUES that we hold deep within. "Then we'll scheme and we'll plan and we'll change those feelings within" sang the ferocious TIGER and horrible looking APE.
So they schemed and they planned and we never saw that little tribe again.
The next little TRIBE built their HEART out of the ways of man. And they finished and said "look what WE did."
The ferocious TIGER and horrible looking APE came to the tribe and said, "Little TRIBE, Little TRIBE let me have your HEART." But the little TRIBE replied, "Not by the VALUES that we hold deep within. "Then we'll shceme and we'll plan and we'll change those feelings within' sang the ferocious TIGER and horrible looking APE.
So they schemed and they planned and we never saw that little TRIBE again.
But the last 9 TRIBES built their HEARTS out of Faith, Divine Nature, Individual Worth, Knowledge, Choice and Accountability, Good Works and Integrity. And they worked and they prayed, and they played and they prayed and they followed the VALUES that they knew to be true.
When from deep within the HEART Of the JUNGLE came the ferocious TIGER and horrible looking APE and they said, "Little TRIBES, little TRIBES, let me have your HEART." And the nine little TRIBES replied "Not by the VALUES that we hold deep within. "Then we'll scheme and we'll plan and we'll change those feelings within." Sang the ferocious TIGER and horrible looking APE. So they schemed and they planned and they planned and they schemed and they worked on the HEARTS of the nine little TRIBES but they couldn't steal those VALUES away from them. Cause the nine little tribes had built strong HEARTS of Faith, Divine Nature, Individual Worth, Knowledge, Choice and Accountability, Good Works and Integrity.
They had a testimony of the gospel ways. They knew how to love and they knew they were loved. The nine little TRIBES lived happily ever after -- And we never saw the ferocious TIGER and the horrible looking APE again.
