S. O. S.
"Sisters of the Savior"

  • Main Idea:

To help the young women develop a personal relationship with Christ and feel the need to become like Him.

  • Theme Song:

"Have You Received His Image in your Countenance",
The Light Within Book, by Janice Kapp Perry, Page #22

  • Camp Craft:

Make a "Camp Pillow Case". Get cheap white pillow cases and have the girls take turns putting a handprint on all of the pillow cases. Put acrylic paints on paper plates and have them put their hands in it and then on the pillow case. They can then sign their name with a permanent Sharpie Marker or even write a little to each Young Women on her pillow case.

  • Stake S.O.S. Activity:

    INTRODUCTION:
**(I used a voice like they use at Disney Land for this part)
Welcome, We are glad you came to visit us today. As you progress through the building, for your safety please be sure to hold tight to the iron rod. I caution you that htis is the only way to get there safely. Begin now by taking a firm grip on the iron rod to your left and be aware of possible dangers that could surround you. No matter what don't ever let go of your iron rod. It will safely guide you.

    ACTIVITY
**(Let them follow the iron rod through the building. (Or set up a course after dark outside through the trees) It should be completely dark. They should go over stumbling blocks and around them. Have stake youth leaders out in the darkness tempting them. They could go up to them and whisper in their ear without touching them or say it from a distance things like:

"Come this way it's a short cut."
"Let go of the iron rod, come with me, I'll show you the right way."
"Try this, Just once won't hurt. Come on I dare you."
"Come on--join our party. It's great. You'll have a great time."
"You don't want to follow the iron rod do you? How boring."

**After they have all finished sit down in a group:

**Have a speaker talk about "Lehi's Dream".

    Conclusion:
**Lehi's dream, along with all other scripture stories are for us to learn from. There are many thiangs in the world that would tempt us and atry to get us to let go of the iron rod. Bad movies, immorality, drinking, drugs, and many many more things. THey want us to join with them but that is not the right way. We know it isn't. We have been taught the truth. The only way to true happiness is to hold tight to the iron rod. Never ever let go. It is the only path that leads to true happiness.

**Read the words to the song found in the Hymn book "The Iron Rod".

    **Testimony and closing prayer.

  • Daily Scripture Memorization:

At flag ceremony we gave the girls a scripture to memorize. Sometime before the next flag ceremony they were to tell one of the leaders the scripture. When they did we gave them a treat. We were amazed at the excitement in this activity. At the next flag ceremony we stood and repeated that scripture. Then we gave them the next one.

You could also give them a "Camp Scripture Sticker" to put in their scripture to remind them that they learned it at camp. The good feelings will return when ever they see that scripture.

**Here is a list of the scriptures that we used. You can substitute them for your own choice if you prefer. You will want to give the Tuesday Evening Scripture at the Tuesday Morning flag ceremony. (You will be giving the scripture out at the prior flag ceremony).

Tuesday Evening Scripture: 2 Nephi 32:3

    Wednesday Morning Scripture: Alma 32:21

    Wedbesday Evening Scripture: Alma 37:35

    Thursday Morning Scripture: D&C 64:33

    Thursday Evening Scripture: Moroni 7:33

    Friday Morning Scripture: Moroni 10:4

  • Misc. Ideas:

Whenever we gathered together as a stake and especially at Flag Ceremony, while everyone was gathering we would sing fun songs and play a fun game.

This year we asked questions and if they knew the answer or were applicable to the question they got to come down and get a piece of candy from the candy bowl.

**Here were the questions: (We usually only had time for about three)

--Who has their Y.W. Torch Necklace on?
--All those who can repeat the tenth Article of Faith.
--Who has red tennis shoes on? (What value does red stand for)
--Who is carrying their "For the Strength of Youth" Pamphlet?
--Who is wearing a CTR Ring?
--Who has curlers in their hair?
--Who has yellow on? (What value does it stand for?)
--Who has finished certifying? --Name the First Presidency.
--Who has the most braids in their hair?
--Who has a Mickey Mouse watch on?
--Who has blue eye shadow on?
    --Who is bald?
    --Who has blood shot eyes?
    --Who has chapstick with them?
--Who has red fingernail polish on?
    --Who has their scriptures?
--Who was the 5th Presidency of the church?
    --Where was President Hinckley born?
--Repeat the 13th Article of Faith.
