"Solo Experience"with "Dear to My Heart" Scripture Stickers
Activity
WHAT DO WE WANT TO HAVE HAPPEN:
Help the young women gain a stronger testimony.
This should be held toward the end of your Girl's Camp stay.
Preparation and Supplies Needed:
- "Solo Experience Booklet" for each Young Woman from www.debanae.net.
- Have someone prepared to present the attention getter activity.
- Have the young women bring with them...thier scriptures, camp manual and pen.
- An orange for each young woman.
- Prepare to sing the song "I am a child of God."
Activity
Have the young women gather together with their scriptures etc. Have them sit in a circle around the fire bowl.
MINI-LESSON:
- Begin this activity by giving each young woman an orange. Have them look at it and be ready to recognize it. Put all of the oranges into the middle. Then ask each girl to find her orange.
- Talk about how each orange is individual and different but all of them have good stuff on the inside. Read to them this poem:
"If you choose to pick an orange on the premise that it's cute...
You are dealing with appealing not considering the fruit.
Now a peel is just a pretense, just a cover-up, a lure,
to entice your very senses, But you never can be sure.
For a thousand are attracted and excited by the skin
but...it's the deeper stuff that matters,
It's what's offered from within."
- Talk to them about each being individual. Explain about their "Solo Experience" and that this is their time to be alone and take a look at the deeper stuff inside of them.
- Give them their booklets. Explain to them that they are to go by themself into nature. They are to stay within yelling distance and that in 45 minutes you will ring a bell.
- Tell them that (for safety reasons) they are to come and check in with you when they get back into camp. When they check in give them a hug and their orange to eat.
- Sing "I am a Child of God."
As you are singing the young women can begin leaving for their "Solo Experience".
